 "Nice and Big!" 2010-07-20

By SweetW (USA)

I have one of these laptop backpacks. Actually the reviews here sound like we are talking about two different models that are very similar. Mine matches the pictures exactly, although it was purchased at a brick-and-mortar store.

This bag fits my 17" laptop easily. It is nice that it has a separate laptop section. The laptop goes in the back pocket, closest to your back. The next pocket is actually a huge storage compartment that will easily hold 2" binders. I can fit another laptop (15") and a small printer in this compartment. Of course, I don't usually carry around two laptops on my back, but when traveling by car I let this be my "computer suitcase".

The backpack I have has the internal wiring and the headphone jack on one of the straps -- not a headphone slot-thru like some have described. I do not use the headphone wiring so cannot comment on it.

The water bottle pockets on the sides are a great feature. They hold the big water bottles (1 liter) and are sturdy. There is also a cinch strap that I use to secure the water bottles in place. It works great with the shaped water bottles.

The back and shoulder straps are well-padded. This is a comfy bag to carry, even though it is so huge it is easy to pack it really heavy.

This bag seems to wear very well. I have been using mine for two years and it is not showing any signs of wear so far.

One thing I have noticed is that the zippers aren't the smoothest zipping ones - of course, that might be because they are very heavy duty zippers and have large teeth. I haven't ever had trouble with them, just noticed they aren't super-smooth.

 "Great Backpack" 2010-07-20

By T

I have had this backpack for 3 months now and I absolutley love it. It has plenty of room for my 15.4inch screened Dell laptop. It has tons of space and I mean tons, the thing has room enough for shoes if you need. The side pockets are nice for your brick laptop charger and it even has a cup holder on the side that comes in handy for a water battle holder. So far the only drawbacks I have had is it doesent offer best in class protection for your laptop in a severe drop situation and it may be too big for some people. I have gotten many compliments on it, a friend bought the same one and it has room enough for his 17 inch Toshiba laptop. He also uses it for a travel carry on and diaper bag! I would recomend this backpack to anyone.

 "very versatile" 2010-07-13

I've owned a number of bags, and this is more than a laptop backpack. Nice weight, strong construction, and lots of different size compartments add to the versatility. This is a longtime keeper.

 "good ole bag" 2010-07-05

By mark a. aguilera

I was looking for a bag to carry my lap top,but my son asked what I really wanted and told me I should look at the back packs. I saw this and thought it would be what I needed, so I bought it and I think I made a good choice. I like all the pockets and places to carry other stuff.

 "great bag, but..." 2010-06-28

By A. Dorman (NY United States)

I looked everywhere for a professional-looking laptop backpack, and was initially thrilled to find this one. It seemed perfect...until I got it and realized it's far too large for me. Don't get me wrong, this is a great bag: professional, nice construction, great compartments, nice laptop protection, and very comfortable with the padded straps and back. However, I didn't realize just how big this bag was until I saw it in person. I am 5'3" and this bag made me look like I'd topple over (my husband thought it was hilarious), not to mention that I only need a bag big enough to carry my laptop with power cord, a couple notebooks, a bunch of papers, and some personal belongings. Sad this one didn't work out, but I think it would be a great choice for someone with lots of stuff to carry around on a regular basis.

 "Great VFM Backpack" 2010-05-25

By N. Venugopal Rao (Hyderabad, India)

I bought this backpack from SwissGear and am delighted to own it. It easily accomodates my 15" Lenovo laptop, apart from a host of other stuff in the other 4 compartments, like adapter, mouse, USB, keys, mp3 player, check books, etc.

The USP of this product is its light weight and excellent packaging---looks real good in black with the red emblem at the top. I've carried lots of stuff in it during my local trips in NY and London, and am using it daily to work in India. It draws envious stares wherever I go.

The facility to scan a laptop without removing it from the bag is superb, but security guys in India are dimwits and insist on removing it fully.

I'd have given it 5 stars but for the absence of cushioning on the top handle; the back straps are adequately-cushioned though.

My pal wanted to buy one yesterday, but it looks like the price has risen steeply to $ 140---I had paid only $ 39.99 in March, 2010.

 "Good Purchase" 2010-04-11

By Swarnendu S. Das (USA)

This bag is really very good. It has got lot of space and lot of pockets also. The chain quality is also very good. The only drawback of this is its handles. They are not very cushioned. So it hurts the shoulder when weight increases. Apart from that this bag is awesome.

 "School and Outdoors" 2010-07-21

By V Dubbes (West Linn, Oregon)

The bag can carry much more than the average backpack can, due to its reasonable shape. The bag has very little wasted space when I put my books in the bag, as the bag is not overly tall, like the Ful backpacks I've tried. This backpack also lasts far past expectations and came with a lifetime warranty. It has plenty of useful pockets and storage space. The bag also has much better support than many comparable bags. I would also like to see an extra water bottle pouch.

 "Super Buy" 2010-07-09

By Kfish

This backpack has been excellent so far. Working at a camp I need a backpack that can withstand extensive abuse. This backpack has trudged through the mud, rain, and dust and is still all in one piece. All zippers and seams are still in perfect working order.

A nice part is the rain cover. Its handy compartment keeps the rain fly from becoming bothersome in another pouch.

Often times I have to carry a lot around with me and the Access can take care of that. Everything has its own pouch.

A con though is there is only one place for a water bottle. A second mesh pocket would be helpful.

 "Great Backpack" 2010-06-06

By G. Bol

The backpack is great! The elastic shoulder straps add extra comfort and lighten the load. The back padding is also great. Although there are a ton of pockets, the backpack is well organized and built and it holds a lot of stuff, including my 15.6" laptop (with extra room). The straps can be tightened to pull the backpack together so that the weight is centered and I often go hiking, so this pack will make a great day pack as well. I've had no problems so far.

 "Excellent backpack for travel" 2010-06-03

By Eashwer P. Srinivasan (Fremont, CA USA)

Got the High Sierra Access Backpack couple days ago, took it for a trip during the memorial day weekend. Plenty of space. You can also slip in a laptop in it securely. The straps are comfortable even on long walks. Product quality is excellent.

 "Very Nice Backpack" 2010-05-23

By Zell

This backpack seems very well made and durable, I think that the rain cover is a plus especially for keeping your laptop dry. The reason I give it four stars is because the picture shows padded waist straps (which is the reason for the tuck-away compartment) and my backpack did not have any (just had regular straps) this wasn't really a big deal though but they were shown in the picture so if you are looking for them beware yours may not have it. Mine also did not have the zippered waterbottle side compartment (its just a regular mesh waterbottle holder). Overall its a very well made backpack with plenty of room and I was surprised out how nicely my 15 inch notebook fits in the compartment. Recommended for school and traveling. (I ordered the navy blue color in case your wondering)

"Everything I wanted in a backpack and more!" 2010-05-07

By Bird

I used to have a Jansport, which was good, but it was too small. I'm a full time student. Th High Sierra Access Pack has tons of room. I can fit more books in it than I can hold on my back, and I'm a big guy 6'6". It has a padded compartment for my laptop. It is made of a durable fabric. The bag has clips, so you can collapse it to a smaller size if you have less books, so adjustable back straps to accomodate different size loads. It's perfect for everything I'm doing at school, for camping and for vacations. It's extremely comfortable to wear. I'm impressed.

"High Sierra gets high ranks!" 2010-04-29

By Tia J. Rymal

I purchased the High Sierra Access Backpack because I was recently laid off and was returning to college to finish my degree. This backpack cost more than I wanted to spend, but it had great reviews. I decided to go for it and I am definitely glad I did! This is the BEST backpack I have ever seen! It has everything you could possibly need as far as backpacks go. It is extremely comfortable, has large compartments, a padded laptop sleeve, a water bottle holder, a keychain clip, and tons of pockets that will help keep you organized. If you are looking for a great backpack, this is the one for you!

 "GREAT backpack!" 2010-04-03

By Hung V. Nguyen (Columbia, SC)

This is a GREAT backpack! It has plenty of space and many compartments for miscellaneous items. I go to college and this backpack carries all of my books comfortably and from time to time, carries my Nikon D60 DSLR along with all of my books with no problems. The suspension strap works great and it is very comfortable to wear around campus. I also wore it when I am on my moped and it is superb. Very agile, I didn't feel hindered or anything by having it on me. Big thick zippers to easily open and close compartments, also you can grab a hold of those zippers very easily.

 "happy I purchased it" 2010-02-10

By Rebecca J. Stegeman

This backpack is great. I am happy with my purchase. There are lots of compartments in the backpack and I am using for a full college load of books. I like the rain coat in the bottom and that's what sold me on purchasing this. And the compartment for laptop is nice. I was expecting a little more padding between the laptop compartment and the large compartment for books. I wish the straps were a little more padded since I am filling it with lots of weight, it is uncomfortable after carrying it for long distances. Don't get me wrong, they are padded straps, and my boyfriend likes it, I just wish they had a little more padding. The color I got was a cross between pink/purple and in the picture it looked more purple. But I am satisfied with the backpack- it gets my books to and from school and has room for much more!

 "jansport backpack" 2010-07-30

By An Avid Reader (CA, USA)

I got this backpack 4 years ago, the summer before my freshman year of high school. I love it. It has a ton of compartments for you to put things in and it's huge. It fit all of my binders/notebooks perfectly every year and it didn't feel too heavy at all. I'd also take it with me when I was travelling and such. I think that the quality of this backpack is amazing -- it still works perfectly fine today, except the color has faded a little and a strap tore a tiny bit (easily fixed). If you're looking for a fairly large, useful, and durable backpack, this one is definitely worth the money.

"Review for Jansport Big Student backpack" 2010-07-14

By mango113 (Charlottesville, VA USA)

This backpack is made of sturdy lightweight material and is big enough to fit several large textbooks. The material is also pretty waterproof, and the shoulder straps are comfortably padded. One of the reviewers mentioned that the straps might be uncomfortable for smaller people, but I have not found that to be the case and I am pretty small (~5 ft). They're actually more comfortable than the old Jansport backpacks with the straight straps. The only thing I don't like about this backpack is that the lining material makes really loud crinkly noises so that everyone notices when I open my backpack and fumble around inside looking for something.

The color that I got is called 'white little echo' and there are little peace signs, butterflies, flowers, and hummingbirds on it. This pattern can look a bit childish on adults even though the amazon picture looks fine when not zoomed in. It doesn't bother me since I tend to look young for my age.

 "Still looks new!" 2010-06-25

By Happy Mother (Florida)

My 4th grader was having an awful time carrying her books and binders home each day. I had bought one backpack that was supposed to be ergonomically correct, so I assumed that would help. I think it actually made it harder on her, and it was also hard to zip. Eventually, it ripped, and I got a good deal on this one here at Amazon. She's had little problem carrying her books or zipping her backpack. It's still a heavy backpack, but it's easier for her to manage. She's had it about six months now, and it still looks brand new. She'll be using it again for 5th grade, and as long as it lasts!
